Benchmarks · early preview

Fast is a claim.
Benchmarks are proof.

Every host says it's fast. Few show their numbers. We're publishing ours, measured with a free, independent tool anyone can install, so you can check our work.

Internal testing so far

2× to 20×

faster than the other hosting companies we've tested, in every benchmark we've run.

Measured with the free Hosting Benchmark tool for WordPress. Full results, test dates and the plans we compared against will be published on this page.

Why benchmarks

Spec sheets don't tell the whole story.

Two plans can both list "4 CPU cores" and perform very differently. CPU generation and clock speed, storage, memory and how crowded a server is all change how fast WordPress runs.

✓

WordPress is single-thread heavy. Each uncached page is built by PHP on one CPU thread, so per-core speed matters more than core count.

✓

Storage and databases add up. A page can make hundreds of small database reads, which is where NVMe pulls ahead.

✓

Neighbors matter. On crowded shared servers, your speed depends on everyone else's traffic.

✓

A benchmark measures the result, not the marketing. That's why we'd rather show you numbers.

How we test

One free tool. Eight kinds of tests.

We use the same plugin you can install on any WordPress site, including one hosted somewhere else. That way, our results and yours are measured the same way.

The tool

Hosting Benchmark tool

A free WordPress plugin by Anton Aleksandrov, with more than 4,000 active installs. It runs entirely inside WordPress using the server's own PHP, so there's nothing else to install. It's built by an independent developer, not by Web7.

CPU

Processing power

Raw processing speed plus WordPress-specific work. The plugin's author calls CPU the most important factor.

MEMORY

Memory

How efficiently the server handles memory-intensive operations.

FILESYSTEM

Disk reads & writes

File read and write speed, which WordPress leans on constantly.

DATABASE

Database queries

Query execution speed, including complex joins.

CACHE

Object cache

How fast the persistent object cache responds, if one is available.

NETWORK

Network speed

How quickly the server can download data and respond.

WORDPRESS

WordPress core

Real WordPress operations like shortcodes, hooks and transients.

PROCESSING

Data & images

Data serialization, compression and image processing.

Results

Full results are on the way.

We're putting our numbers together in one place. When they're ready, this page will show the details behind them, including:

✓

The Web7 plan we tested

✓

The hosting plans we compared against

✓

When each test was run, and on which PHP version

Run it yourself

Don't take our word for it.

The best benchmark is the one you run yourself. Here's how to compare us with your current host.

01

Get a free demo

Request a free demo environment on our servers. It runs on the same hardware our customers use.

02

Install the plugin

Add the Hosting Benchmark tool from the WordPress plugin directory and run it.

03

Compare

Run the same plugin on your current host and compare the scores side by side.

Good to know: the plugin creates large temporary files and runs a lot of database queries, so it needs at least 500 MB of free disk space. It deletes its temporary files and tables when it's done.

Why does CPU speed matter so much for WordPress?

WordPress builds each uncached page with PHP on a single CPU thread, so the speed of each core matters more than how many cores you have. The plugin's author lists CPU generation and clock speed as the most important factor, and notes that newer PHP versions help too.

Is the plugin safe to run on a live site?

It runs inside WordPress and cleans up after itself, but it creates large temporary files and runs many database queries while it works. It needs at least 500 MB of free disk space. If you're unsure, run it during a quiet time, or in a free demo environment.

When will you publish the full results?

Soon. They'll be published on this page. Until then, you can run the same tests yourself in a free demo environment.

Can I send you results from my current host?

Yes, and we'll thank you with account credit. Submit your benchmark screenshots. Hosts we don't have data on yet earn a larger credit.

Which plan should I benchmark?

If page speed is your priority, try a Pro plan. They run on our highest-clocked CPUs, which boost to 5.5 GHz. Compare all plans.
